Root Canals

What is Root Canal?

Root canal surgery is a procedure that removes the pulp from a tooth and replaces it with a crown or bridge.

Root canal treatment involves the removal of the decay, inflammation, and pulp (the nerve tissue) within the tooth. A root canal system is then inserted into the tooth to allow for proper drainage of the nerve tissue. The nerve is then covered with an artificial filling material, which will help to protect it as well as provide stability for your tooth restoration.

A root canal system may be recommended after your tooth has been extracted due to severe decay or if it has been damaged by trauma.

At ODS Dental Surgery, root canal therapy is performed when the pulp which is composed of nerves and blood vessels in the tooth becomes infected or damaged. During root canal therapy, the pulp is removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed.

People fear root canals because they assume they are painful. Actually, most people report that the procedure itself is no more painful than having a filling placed. At ODS Dental Surgery, we will give you a comfortable experience during the entire procedure.
